Today is a rest day from bike riding for a couple of reasons. One to let the muscles in my legs rest from the extra miles I put on the last couple of days. The other to let the air clear of unwanted essence of skunk that has fouled the air at the top of one of my longest climbs.
As oft happens when left on my own without supervision I opt to cruse the internet looking to be entertained by others. When you live to be 67, there are many opportunities for nostalgia to creep in. This mornings entertainment came as I found a link to Taming the Bicycle by Mark Twain. The memories of this date back to Junior High School (Middle School for those of your not so old). I remember sitting in class discussing many of the works by Mark Twain. English Literature was the only English class that I ever did well at or cared about. This was the same year and class where I memorized in entirety the The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. That’s really added fame and riches to my life. I’ve yet to understand the deep meanings of this verse. If I had been that dude, I would have just gone on to the wedding and left that old nut standing there talking to himself.
If you want to be entertained for a few minutes, you may like to read Mark Twain’s experiences as he learned to ride a 50 inch bike. Taming the Bicycle by Mark Twain.
