Yesterday the weather was beautiful, mid 60’s and I rode a couple of extra miles. Approaching my driveway there is a pretty good decent on a very rough county road. I guess I was a little tired from the extra distance and my foot came off the pedal, hit the ground and jerked backward. I got it off the ground before it went under the trike, but it was a bit of a scare.
I’ve been using platform pedals. You know, use what you have at hand. My son and I discussed options to this a few weeks ago. Pedals had not been a problem up to this point. Point is, I’ve not had a recumbent before.
I think for the sake of safety on a recumbent trike, there should be a way to secure you feet to the pedals. I know the modern thing to do is use clip-less pedals, but I hate to have to use the same pair of shoes all the time. I like my work boots at times, tennis shoes at other times, etc. I would hate to have to clip-in to ride my bike across my muddy pasture.
So I guess, today I’m in the market for toe clips and straps. My Walmart out here in the country does not stock them although the ones in Dallas do. The closest small bike shop to me is 40 miles away in Tyler. I guess I’ll order them over the internet and hope I like them.
